William Jackson was born December 7, 1921 to the Holy Matrimonial Union of Mr. Andrew C. Jackson and Mrs. Leatha Dickson Jackson of Kansas City, Missouri. Sometime in the 1920s William and his family moved to a part of Dallas, Texas, they called Mill City. This was at a time when America was going through one of its most trying times, “The Great Depression”. As a youngster, William would get up early in the morning tend the vegetable gardens and livestock. He did this daily as a duty for his family. In many case’s the only way to acquire goods and services in those times was through the barter system. In this, William acquired a work ethic bar-none.

In 1942, William served time in the US Army receiving an honorable discharge. He worked on the Union Pacific Railroad that traversed the coast of California in 1947. William was hired at Mac Donnell Douglas in 1950. He worked at Douglas for 14 years becoming a lead man. William found his life long occupation in 1965 in the field of Real Estate. He was elected an active member of the Los Angeles Realty Board in 1972 and granted a license to use the Designation Realtor in 1977. William worked as a Real Estate Broker up until his demise.

William met the love of his life Alice Terrell and they married in 1958. William was a kind and compassionate, understanding man. He had many friends throughout his whole life. He was patient and long suffering, kind hearted, going out of his way to help others understand the intricacies of situations, he was the typical jolly good fellow. He loved Alice and Alice’s children, Gary and Cheryle, Gary’s three children, Lamar, Roshaan and Franchesca, Cheryle’s daughter, JohVonnie Jackson and great granddaughter Yasmine Jackson who all adored him. If he was your friend Alice were never apart.

Death came for someone in my family again but this time it was on my mothers side of the family. The death of my grandfather whom was also know by Gampie or Pappy Smurf stripped me naked of guidance! I want to know who is going to keep it real with me now? Who is going to love me through thick and thin and I mean real thin? Who is going to answer my stupid questions about life? My positive male role model is gone! Who will I be able to trust like I trusted my grandfather?

He was the coolest cat in town and I don’t have not one bad memory except for the time I totaled his Cadillac but that’s another story.

I didn’t get a chance to thank him for all the wonderful things he did in my life and my daughters life. I especially will never forget the quality time we spent together at the beach, China Town and Hawaii. I will miss him taking me to get my Chinese tea sets and how he use to take me to the Phoenix Bakery or how he use to drive me through skid row and show me were I might end up if I don’t stay on my A game. Thank you for teaching me how to tap dance and how to properly pop popcorn and thank you again for being apart of my psychotic life. I truly will miss you as long as I live but the wonderful memories that you and I share are embeded in my brain forever. You and I are Jacksons! We were ment to be !!!!!!!

  5. Jennifer Said,

May God console your heart in losing your dear grandfather. Always know that his spirit is with you.

I lost the only grandfather I knew when I was 4 so my memories are vague but the few I have are strong. I lost 7 dear friends including 2 family members in a one year (2008-2009) time period so I understand losing 2 relatives within a short time frame.
